The Federation of Performing Arts South Africa (FPASA) is the only government-recognised organisation standardising performing arts achievements in South Africa. With over 18 years of operation, FPASA provides national and international competition platforms for talented artists.

Introducing the FPASA Hope School Of the Arts Bursary Opportunity 2027 intake

Together supporting young performers

FPASA and Hope School of the arts have collaberated to offer performers of school leaving age an opportunity to receive a 1 year scholarship valued at R42 000 at their world class institution based in Johannesburg.

Hope School of the Arts

Hope School of the Arts is a fine learning institute sharing FPASA's vision for young South African artists. More than just an institution, HSA describes itself as "a people, not a place" – dedicated to providing knowledge and opportunities for developing artists across the nation and beyond.

Hope Maimane — Founder

Hope Maimane is an International Choreographer from South Africa. Hope has been working as a choreographer for the past 7 years. He specialises in different dance styles such as Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Commercial Dance and more. He has danced and given workshops in 28 countries across Europe, Africa, New Zealand, South America and Asia. Hope has danced and choreographed in Music Videos, Musicals, Live Performances, Movies, TV commercials and he has also choreographed and danced for 2 iconic ContoPop artists while he was in Hong Kong (KayTse & Shirley Kwan.) These live shows were stadium-size shows with audience numbers reaching over 30 000 people. His choreography can be seen in multiple international competitions. He currently holds 15 Gold Medals and 16 Silver medals in international dance competitions. In 2016 his choreography won 1st Place in the IDO Gala Event Best of the Best Competition in Graz, Austria. In 2017 & 2018 his Choreography won 1st Place at the Dancestar Gala Competition in Croatia. He also won 1st & 2nd Place at the 2017 Commonwealth International Gala Competition hosted in South Africa. He has been on numerous World Tours as a dancer in musicals such as Evita, Singin' In The Rain, Annie and more. Hope has a big passion for training dancers in becoming versatile and always looks to push dancers to bring out their own personal best. He has a dance studio in Johannesburg called The Academy SA, runs his own dance intensive called The Hope Intensive in Prague, Czech Republic & he is the Artistic Director of Hope School Of The Arts in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Selection & Sponsorship Process — How It Works

The top 5 candidates from the video auditions will be presented to Hope School of the Arts for personal evaluation. HSA will conduct one-on-one interviews and selects the winning candidate, who will receive 1 year full tuition sponsorship from FPASA.

ALL LINKS MUST BE UPLOADED TO THE UPLOAD AREA PROVIDED ONCE YOUR ENTRY HAS BEEN PAID. ALL LINKS MUST HAVE UNRESTRICTED VIEWING ACCESS AND MUST NOT BE DELETED UNTIL RESULTS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED.
Commercial: Commercials should focus on commercial products, food, home and office products. Can also be an event representation, spokesperson piece (anti-poaching etc). Commercial should be committed to memory. Costumes and props allowed. Comedic Monologue: Material selection is at contestants' discretion. A form of entertainment, comedic solo or a prolonged humorous talk by a single speaker. Monologue should be committed to memory. Legit (Theatre) Monologue: Material selection is at contestants' discretion. Monologue should be committed to memory. Piece can be an own composition. Open: Any monologue may be performed, age appropriate.
Acrobatics/Gymnastics: Tumbling movements incorporated to music. Ballet/Pointe: Ballet or pointe technique, must include classical steps and movement. Hip-Hop: Fusion, street, funk, MTV style movements. No obscenities in music allowed. Lyrical/Contemporary/Modern: Jazz, ballet technique. Interpretative movement demonstrating strength, control and lyric interpretation. Song and Dance: Dance movements and vocal performance, track must NOT have lead vocals but background tracks are allowed. Tap: Tap technique, classic, contemporary, stomp, etc. Must wear tap shoes.
BACKTRACK VOCAL: Performer sings while a backtrack provides the music. INSTRUMENT VOCAL: Performer sings while playing a musical instrument, no backtrack. Country: Traditional or contemporary country style song. Inspirational/Gospel: Song focused on Christian faith or inspirational lyrics. Pop: Popular song. Jazz/R&B: Urban, jazz-based music with a heavy, insistent beat. Contestants may sing a Capella, accompany themselves or sing to a music track without lead vocals and preferably without background vocals.

• Videos may be from any competitions done recently • Videos do not need to be professionally taken, they can be a phone video • Studio videos are allowed • No edited videos may be submitted, only one angle, one take • No pre-recorded vocals may be submitted • No professionally mixed and mastered vocal videos may be submitted • Videos may be in landscape or portrait • Videos must be submitted as a link (Google Drive, OneDrive, YouTube etc) ALL LINKS MUST BE UPLOADED TO THE UPLOAD AREA PROVIDED ONCE YOUR ENTRY HAS BEEN PAID. ALL LINKS MUST HAVE UNRESTRICTED VIEWING ACCESS AND MUST NOT BE DELETED UNTIL RESULTS HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED.
